Normaliser

What it is

Normalises the amplitude of the audio signal to unity, over an averaging time determined by the Attack ("AT") and Release ("RT") parameters (adjustable via the Parameter Window). The adjustable output gain is applied to the signal after the normalisation. NOTE: This component is useful for the prevention of digital clipping (as an efficient alternative to the use of a Limiter).

How it works

The normalisation is performed by dividing the input signal by a time-averaged measurement of its peak value. See [Zo] section 7.2.1 for information on audio level measurement algorithms. The time-averaging is performed with first-order low-pass filtering.
